Handforth Village Show Schedule 2018

Rules

1 Entries must be produced or grown entirely by the exhibitor.

2 Each exhibitor must have a separate entry form.

3 Exhibitor cards will be placed on the tables. These must be placed with each entry, number side down.

4 Exhibitors must provide their own containers.

5 Staging must be done between 10am and 11.15am, only by the exhibitor and under the guidance of the stewards.

6 Exhibits may be reclassified only at the Show Secretary’s discretion.

7 No exhibitor may remain in the hall during judging, unless on official business.

8 If an exhibit is deemed not worthy of a prize, the judge’s decision is final.

9 Any objection must be registered with the Show Secretary not later than 2.30pm on the day of the show.

10 Exhibits for sale should be moved to the sale table at 3.45pm, with an indication of suitable price. Proceeds will go to the show fund.

11 No exhibits may be taken from the premises before 4.00pm.

12 Prize money is paid on the day of the show between 2.30pm and 4.00pm. Prize money not collected is regarded as a donation to the show.

13 HANDFORTH GARDENING SOCIETY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOSS OR DAMAGE TO ANY EXHIBIT OR PERSONAL PROPERTY DURING THE SHOW.

CUT FLOWERS Always pick your best and most even blooms, as close as possible to show date. Ensure they are free from leaf and petal damage. Arrange them tidily in the correct size and type of container. Use plenty of water to keep them fresh.

POT PLANTS Ensure the plant is free from leaf and flower damage, remove dead leaves to present a well-balanced plant. Clean the pot and check that it and the surface of the soil are free from moss etc.

VEGETABLES AND FRUIT Use good quality produce, which has been washed and cleaned but not polished. Go for uniformity rather than size and make sure you exhibit the correct number for each class

SHOW TIMINGS

Staging of entries 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Judging starts 11:30 a.m.

Show opens to the Public 2:00 p.m. and closes 4:00 p.m. after the Raffle

Prize giving 3:30 p.m.

Raffle 4:00 p.m. followed by sale of donated exhibits

Prize money 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • 12 oz or 1 lb (340g or 454g) jar

BRANDY SNAPS - Ingredients

50g butter
50g brown sugar
50g plain flour
50g golden syrup
Half level teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoons lemon juice

N.B. 50g is approximately 2 ozs

BRANDY SNAPS - Method

Pre-heat oven to 180 C / 160 C - fan oven / gas 4.
Grease 3 baking trays (or line with baking parchment).
Place butter, sugar and syrup in a saucepan and heat gently until melted, stirring well.
Sieve the flour and ginger into a mixing bowl and make a well in the centre. Pour the butter mixture and lemon juice into this.
Gradually beat into the flour until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
Place 4 heaped teaspoons, separately, onto each baking tray, allowing plenty of room for the mixture to spread.
Cook in batches for 8 - 10 minutes.
Leave for a minute before removing from the baking tray. Shape each one over the greased handle of a wooden spoon then leave to cool on a wire tray.
Makes 12.
